HANDING-OVER CEREMONY OF THE PROJECT FOR THE RENOVATION AND IMPROVEMENT OF FACILITY AND EQUIPMENT FOR NATIONAL PHARMACY STORES

The Government of Japan handed-over the “The Project for the Renovation and Improvement of the Facility and Equipment for National Pharmacy Stores” for the grant of up to $AUD75,300.00 (approx. 163,000Samoan Tala), today 26 August 2008.
This Project was proposed by the Samoa National Health Service in 2006, consisting of two components: renovation and purchase of equipment. Renovation was achieved by extending the wall to add space, providing air conditioning for the whole area and setting up an office area with computers, printers and modern shelving. Purchases included computers together with printers, high quality air conditioners. One of the priorities of the next SDS (Strategy for the Development of Samoa) is understood to continue improving the national standard of health. The successful completion of this Project enhances the efficiency of the pharmacy stores operation with a view to improving procurement management, providing a dust free storage environment for stocks that need to be stored below 25 degrees Celsius and improving distribution of pharmaceutical supplies.
Mr Kiyohiko Hamada, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, noted that the major theme of this Project, the importance of maintaining and managing drugs and medical supplies, has been realised by installing a computerised inventory system which is believed to enormously improving the medical care. The project will enable the drugs be delivered to the right patient in need in the right amount and at the right time. The Government of Japan extends its best wishes to the National Pharmacy Stores and reaffirms Japan’s determination to continue providing assistance for Samoa’s development. Mr Hamada concluded his congratulatory remarks with the renewed recognition of the friendly partnership that exists between Samoa and Japan.

HANDING-OVER CEREMONY OF THE PROJECT FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE VAIMEA PRIMARY SCHOOL

The Government of Japan handed-over the “The Project for the Reconstruction of the Vaimea Primary School” for the grant of up to $AUD103,380.00 (approx. 224,000Tala), today 26 August 2008.
This Project was proposed by the Vaimea Primary School Committee in 2004. The Project consisted of construction of a new single storey school building block consisting of six classrooms, and a lavatory block & water pump for existing water tank for use by the students. The Government of Samoa is understood to continue to strengthen the education sector through improving school facilities and equipment, and to help enhance the quality life of its society in line with the Strategy for the Development of Samoa (SDS).
The Government of Japan extends its best wishes to the Vaimea Primary School and reaffirms Japan’s commitment to continuing assistance for Samoa’s development. At the hand-over ceremony, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, Kiyohiko Hamada, expressed his sincere wish that the school project is a tangible sign of the steady progress in the partnership between Samoa and Japan.

HANDING-OVER CEREMONY OF THE PROJECT FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF SALEAPAGA PRIMARY SCHOOL

The Government of Japan handed-over “The Project for Reconstruction of the Saleapaga Primary School” for the grant of up to $AUD110,356, equivalent to approximately 238,000 Samoan Tala, today 6 November 2008.
This Project was proposed by the Saleapaga Primary School Committee in 2004. After considering the proposal of the Saleapaga Primary School Committee, the Government of Japan made its decision to implement the Project which consisted of construction of a new school building including seven classrooms.
The Government of Samoa has been undertaking to strengthen the education sector through improving school facilities and equipment, and to help enhance the quality of life of its society in line with the Strategy for the Development of Samoa (SDS) 2008-2012. The completion of this Project will be one of the prominent achievements towards the vision of the SDS, the “Improved Quality of Life for ALL”
The Embassy of Japan wishes that this project will not only help to meet the goal, but will be another symbol of strengthened friendship and mutual understanding between Samoa and Japan.

HANDING-OVER CEREMONY OF THE PROJECT FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF LEULUMOEGA PRIMARY SCHOOL

The Government of Japan handed-over the “Project for the Reconstruction of Leulumoega Primary School” for a grant of up to $AUD 108,600.00 (approx. 235,000 Tala), today 19 December 2008.
The Project, proposed by the Leulumoega Primary School Committee, consisted of the construction of a new school building including eight new classrooms.
The Government of Samoa prioritises the promotion of education in “Strategy for the Development of Samoa 2008-2012”. The completion of this Project will provide the foundation for the better education of all of its students and takes a step closer to the national goal of “Improved Quality of Life for All”.
Minister Hirakoba from the Embassy of Japan offered congratulatory remarks on this occasion. He noted that today’s handing-over ceremony provided him with a very special opportunity not only to witness the accomplishment of this particular Project but also to renew the determination of the Japanese Government towards continued cooperation for the further development of Samoa.
Since the Government of Japan launched the Grassroots Human Security Grant-Aid Programme in 1991, the number of achieved projects has exceeded 110.

SIGNING CEREMONY OF GRANT CONTRACTS FOR THE GRASSROOTS HUMAN SECURITY GRANT-AID PROJECTS

Samoan Primary Schools benefit from the Japanese Government’s Grassroots Human Security Grant Aid Programme as the project for FY2008. Today five Project agreements were signed between the Embassy of Japan and the committees of the following primary schools.
- The Project for Reconstruction of Vailoa Aleipata Primary School
- The Project for Reconstruction of Fasitoo-Uta Primary School
- The Project for Reconstruction of Iva Primary School
- The Project for Reconstruction of Faletolu Primary School
- The Project for Reconstruction of MatatufuPrimary School
Samoa has prioritised Improved Education Standards in the “Strategy for Development of Samoa (SDS) 2008-2012”. Mr Hamada, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, said at the signing ceremony: “Education is one of the most powerful instruments known for reducing poverty and inequality and for laying the basis on sustained economic growth. Japan believes that completion of these projects will be a ripple effect to achieving the national goal of “Improved Quality of Life for All”.
The total number of projects has reached 113 since the Grassroots Grant Aid Project was launched by the Japanese Government in 1991. In 2003, this grant aid instrument was upgraded by adding the important concept of “Human Security”. Mr Hamada, at the ceremony, referred to the context of formation of the Grassroots Human Security Grant-Aid Projects and remarked “On the threshold of today’s signing ceremony, the Government of Japan wishes to renew Japan’s commitment to supporting Samoa through Grassroots Human Security Grant Aid projects focused on individuals to protect them from those threats to human lives, livelihood and dignity and to bring out the full potential of each individual.”
Mr Hamada concluded his remarks by saying, “I sincerely hope that with your cooperation and assistance, these five projects will progress smoothly toward their scheduled date of completion.”
