What does Japan mean to you?
Do you have memories, dreams, or stories connected to Japan? Come and share your passion for Japan in Japanese! Whether you are a beginner or an advanced speaker, everyone is welcome to join. Challenge yourself, share your voice, and celebrate Japanese language and culture together!
3 Levels (3つのレベル)
初級 (Beginner)
Less than 1 year of Japanese study
中級 (Intermediate)
Less than 5 years of study
上級 (Advanced)
5 years or more of study
Contest Format (実施要領)
Round 1: Online Video
Participants submit a 1-minute speech video online covering the theme "Japan and Me".
Round 2: Award Ceremony & Presentation
Top 3 participants from each level (9 in total) will deliver their speeches live at Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui Wellington Central Library!
Video Submission Requirements (映像提出ルール)
- Submission Method: Upload your video to Google Drive and share access with jicc@wl.mofa.go.jp.
- Camera: Standard smartphone recording is perfectly acceptable. Please ensure your face and voice are clearly visible and audible.
- Length & Size: Maximum length is 1 minute. Maximum file size is 100MB.
- Format & Quality: Recommended format is MP4 (.mp4) in HD (720p) to manage file size.
Judging Criteria
- Content (30 pts): Creativity, relevance to theme, audience engagement.
- Fluency (10 pts): Confidence, memorisation, smooth delivery.
- Clarity (10 pts): Pronunciation, voice projection, expression.
- * Speeches over or under the 1-minute limit may lose points.
Eligibility & Rules
- • Open to the general public (Not open to native speakers).
- • Speeches must be original and unpublished.
- • No political, commercial, or religious promotion.
- • No scripts, props, phones, or visual aids during the live speech.
- • Top 3 participants from each level must attend the Award Ceremony & Presentation event in person.
