2017 JENESYS Report

 

A delegation of 20 university students of New Zealand visited Japan between 29 November and 8 December 2017 with other youths from South Pacific Nations such as Australia and Samoa, as part of the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youth (JENESYS) Programme. This year’s JENESYS Programme had two themes; Building Peaceful Societies: History and Culture, and Disaster Prevention: Reconstruction from the Disaster. 10 New Zealanders studying the Japanese language and culture took part in the former theme, while the remaining 10, studying in areas related to architecture or disaster reconstruction, took part in the latter.

The Building Peaceful Societies and Disaster Prevention groups visited Nagasaki and Fukushima respectively, and spent time together in Tokyo. During this time they learned about Japan, its culture, and their respective themes, while also presenting a little about their home country through cultural performances, discussions, and home stays.

The participants had many meaningful experiences while also being friendship ambassadors; representing New Zealand people and promoting goodwill between New Zealand and Japan. We hope that this experience stays with them for many years to come.

2017年11月29日から12月8日の間、JENESYSプログラム（２１世紀東アジア青少年大交流計画）を通じて、ニュージーランド大学生20名が 渡日しました。オーストラリア、サモア、大洋州の国々からの参加者を交え、プログラムに参加した青年たちは、「平和構築・歴史文化」及び 「防災・復興」の2つのカテゴリに分かれて研修を行いました。

初日は東京で観光を共にした後、日本語、日本文化を履修しているニュージーランドの学生10名と建築関連を学ぶ他の10名に分かれ、 それぞれ長崎では平和な社会づくりや日本の歴史、文化を学び、他の10名は福島で防災・災害後の復旧について研修しました。その間、 それぞれの研修テーマについて勉強しながら、論議やホームステイを通じて母国の文化や伝統芸能などを紹介しました。

参加者は日本でとても有意義な経験をすると同時に、ニュージーランドの親善大使として日本との友好的関係を促進しました。 参加者が今回日本で得た知識と体験をもとに両国間の更なる発展の架け橋となることを期待しています。
