What you can do with this visa |
You can stay for up to 90 days in Japan for the purposes of business, attending a conference and/or other unpaid activities. Paid or profit-making activities are prohibited on this visa.

NZ citizen and foreign nationals who hold a valid long-term New Zealand visa (e.g. resident, work, student etc.)

How to apply |
You can send an application by post but you must pick up in person.
If you wish to nominate another person to collect, please complete the authorisation form with your signature. Your nominated person must provide this authorisation form, his/her official ID, and pay the visa fee (if applicable) in cash at the time of collection.
Required documents |
- SCREENING CERTIFICATE – copy OK. *This should be acquired by your host organisation in Japan. They need to submit documents regarding your travel plans to the relevant government agency in Japan.For details, please see the pages of Ministry of Health or Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan
- Passport
- Visa application form [sample] with one recent passport sized photo (45x35mm) affixed by glue
- Valid New Zealand visa (if you are not NZ citizen)
- Flight reservation
- Travel itinerary: use this prescribed form
- An original letter on company letterhead explaining your position, nature of the business trip, length of stay and the company’s financial responsibility for expenses incurred on the trip.
- A letter of invitation from the company in Japan with company letterhead and signature (copy ok).
- If your business contacts in Japan will bear the cost of your travel and stay in Japan, please provide the following:
- Letter of guarantee
- Registration record of the company in Japan
- Visa fee (if applicable) payable when visa is issued. Payment must be by cash when passport is collected.
Notes |
- Additional documentation may be required.
- No documents other than your passport will be returned and must be collected in person. Passports will not be returned by post.
- Most visa applications will take a while to process. There is no urgent visa service.
- Even in possession of a visa, final permission to enter Japan remains at the discretion of the immigration authorities.
- You must enter Japan within three months from the date of issue.
